When you want to scale quickly, bespoke isn't the answer.
The Problem & Goal
Marriott set out to overhaul its entire web platform by transitioning to Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) while building a growing library of reusable content components. This shift from their legacy system aimed to streamline the process for Marriott corporate and individual hotels to quickly release new pages, features, and updates. This was something that used to take months, even for minor changes, like adding features to a property. The move to AEM, along with the component library, was designed to drastically reduce the time and manpower needed for these updates
The Outcome
My creative team and I faced a unique challenge: Marriott had recently introduced new design principles, but they hadn’t been fully implemented or stress-tested. Marriot Bonvoy also owns 30 brands that needed to utilize the AEM product. Our task was to take these principles, react to them, design improvements, and refine their directions. While also building them in a way that they could be leveraged by all 30 brands. Over time, our work has not only enhanced Marriott’s original vision of a unified guest experience and faster go to market web devellopment, but has also influenced their internal teams to adopt our systems and components across their other platforms.

"Thank you so much for building such a wonderful and beautiful website! We have recieved great feedback from the hotel team, especially on how sophisticated the user experience is and the improved flexibility of the content."
Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay
Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay was able to cut their page count from 51 pages to 10, while spending roughly 35 hours to do this new hotel website build. This same process traditionally took weeks if not months, the move to AEM not only has massive impacts on the user but also massive impacts opperationally as you can imagine this scaling over 7000+ locations.

Mobile First
Designed to be mobile first and built on AEM. Marriott knows the majority of their customers are on the go and consume their content via tablet or phone.

Component Driven
Given that this is built on AEM the goal was to build this on a modular design system. As you scroll through the highlights of some of the luxury work, I’m sure you can see the components and how they take shape between different brands.
Our goal working with Marriott was to build a library that their content authors could stretch and evolve over time. Now that this product is into production it’s been interesting seeing how different locations and content authors are using various components in ways we didn’t originally imagine.
